God is a Spirit

John 4: 24
24 aGod is a bSpirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in ctruth.

Many people use this to prove that God does not have a body, but the same could be said for man. Man is a spirit. Man is also flesh and bone, but our spirit is who we are.

Does anyone have any other authoritative resources on this?

No sources, just my own logic here... but since Jesus (Jehovah) only became incarnate somewhere around 5-1 B.C., then surely before that he WAS a spirit? So when the Hebrews/Jews stated that God was a Spirit, they were merely speaking the truth, up until after Christ's resurrection. Of course, the Father had a body of flesh and bones before that, but the Jews did not know the Father as a separate entity, they thought Jehovah was the highest God until Jesus revealed the Father during his ministry on earth. And for the entire history of the Old Testament, Jehovah was indeed a spirit. Now, two of the members of the Godhead have bodies of flesh and bones; the only one who remains a spirit is the Holy Ghost. So, in a way, one could STILL say that "God is a spirit", because each of the members of the Godhead can be called "God". But of course, we know that that is an incomplete statement as regards the other two members of the Godhead.
